Graduate students

We currently have openings for students with strength in both molecular biology and computer science. More details about our research may be found on our home page at http://compbio.berkeley.edu.

The standard admission procedure at UC Berkeley is to apply to the University first, where your application will be reviewed by the admissions committee. (Note that Dr. Brenner is not on any admission committees this year and has no control over your admission.) Upon acceptance, you would then approach a professor about studying in their lab. Incoming students typically rotate through three labs before choosing the one in which they will do their doctoral research.

Because of the interdisciplinary nature of our research, Dr. Brenner has appointments in several departments and programs. You may apply to the one that is most suitable for your background and interests. Information on admissions procedures for these programs can be found at the following addresses:

Most of the above Berkeley graduate programs offer the option of joining the Designated Emphasis Program in Computational Biology and Genomics (see http://qb3.berkeley.edu/ccb/research-education/decgb/).

If you have specific questions, Dr. Brenner would be happy to discuss both research activities in our group and these graduate programs.
