Postdoctoral Fellow Official Duties & Qualifications

Two Postdoctoral Fellows

Duties:

The successful applicant will be charged with carrying out innovative and insightful research in the field of computational molecular biology. Choice of project would to some degree depend on the applicant's interests and abilities, though it is expected that the research will be purely computational and will be allied with the group's focus on computational approaches to structural and functional genomics. Current projects include classifying protein families using sequence & structure, and selecting targets for experimental structural genomics efforts; developing sequence and structure comparison techniques; creating databases and analyses for new genomic information; understanding relationships between structure, homology, and function; predicting gene function using genomics & phylogeny.

Qualifications:

The ideal applicant would have a Ph.D. (preferably in computational biology, biophysics, genetics, computer science, bioengineering, or molecular biology) and have already had some experience in one of the above-mentioned research areas. He or she would be skilled in programming and using the computer to solve problems (e.g. experience with several of C/C++, Perl5, SQL, HTML, Java, BLAST & FASTA, Linux).
