Assistant Programmer/Web Site Developer (Student Position)
Hourly Rate: $15.00
Work hours: 12+ per week
Description
We hope to find an individual who can assist with the development, testing
and maintenance of an exciting project in the rapidly growing research
area of the biology of RNA. With SCOR (the Structural Classification of
RNA, http://scor.lbl.gov), we
classify three-dimensional structures of RNA
with the aim of learning more about RNA structure, function and evolution.
You will also maintain and fix bugs on the current site, assist with
building interfaces for a new site, and write programs/scripts for data
loading and data analysis. By participating in this project, you will be
putting your programming skills toward furthering this exciting field. You
will also learn about RNA and protein structure, function, and evolution,
and hone your web-development skills.
Qualifications
Fully knowledgeable and competent with at least one scripting or
programming language (Java, C, C++, Perl, Python), and working knowledge
of at least two of the following: relational database design/RDBMS
administration/SQL, XML/XSLT programming, HTML, web technologies (e.g.
Apache, tomcat, JBOSS), Linux/UNIX. An interest in structural biology,
and/or demonstrated experience in design and implementation of a web site
are pluses. Must be able to work at least 12 hours/week.
