I'm a PhD student in the Molecular & Cell Biology department at UC Berkeley, working in Steven Brenner's computational biology research group. I use bioinformatics methods to interpret the vast amounts of biological data available from large-scale experiments.

Before grad school, I studied math and biology at MIT. I stayed there for a brief time after graduating, working for Chris Burge in the biology department.

Aside from my research, I have some related hobbies. I help maintain WebLogo. I used to organize the Genomics & Computational Biology seminar series (which was initiated by students before Berkeley even had a computational biology program). I TAed a computational biology course a few years ago, and I'm interested in ways to teach biology with a more quantitative focus. I would like to contribute something to the bioperl project someday. I support open-access publication, especially PLoS. I like to read about evolution, science and culture. I never get around to reading any science blogs, but I'm told there are some good ones out there.
