About Me

* The French Connection...

I have spent a lot of time in France and speak fluent French.

I lived for a year with the Ducher family in St Leonard de Noblat near Limoges as a year out after finishing school before starting my undergraduate degree.

During my undergrad I studied for one semester at l'Universite Paul Sabatier in Toulouse on an Erasmus scheme.

* The Romanian Connection!

I have had some on-going connections with the small UK based charity Romania Connect and have been involved in some of the organised school trips there which funded holidays for handicapped Romanians. I also collected computers for a day-care centre that was started by the charity in Bucharest.

* Post-PhD escape!

Taking a big trip at the end of my Ph.D. was probably one of the best things I have ever done!

I went trekking in Nepal for a month - all around Sagarmatha national park - to Everest base camp and the Gokyo lakes it was incredibly hardwork but absolutely spectacular.

I then spent a month in Thailand - learning to scuba dive and remembering how to do things other than work again!
(But since I started as a post-doc that has long since been forgotten!!)

* Other Hobbies & Pastimes

I am currently trying to learn both Italian & Spanish as an in-car activity given my long commute to work!

I'm also attempting to learn to snow-board & make the most of snow nearby at Tahoe - this is not coming very naturally to me as a Brit, but I am getting there slowly but surely!
